MOBILE COVERAGE CHECKER
Good mobile coverage is increasingly important for how we live, work and access services. This Mobile Coverage Checker allows you to explore mobile network coverage across Staffordshire using data collected by Streetwave.
The information was gathered using mobile testing equipment installed in waste collection vehicles operating across Staffordshire. As the vehicles travelled their normal collection routes, the equipment recorded mobile coverage and performance across the four main UK mobile networks: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone.
The data provides a detailed street-by-street view of mobile connectivity, helping residents, businesses and communities better understand coverage in their area. It also helps Staffordshire County Council identify areas where coverage may need to improve and supports discussions with mobile network operators about future investment.
About this data
The data shown in this checker was collected during 2025 and represents network performance at the time of testing.
Results should be used as a guide rather than a guarantee of service. Mobile coverage can change over time and may vary depending on your device, location, whether you are indoors or outdoors, weather conditions, local surroundings and network demand.
Some roads may show "No data" where measurements could not be collected. This may be because the survey vehicle did not travel along that road or because insufficient data was available. "No data" does not mean there is no mobile coverage in that location.
Understanding your mobile coverage
Results may vary slightly because the Postcode Checker and Coverage Maps show different information.
The Postcode Checker provides estimated download and upload speeds for a specific address.
The Coverage Maps provide an overall coverage score based on a wider range of network performance measures, including download and upload speeds.
Understanding your mobile coverage
Don't worry – your address is still on the Council's records. Streetwave uses a different address database, so some addresses may not appear in the postcode search.
If you cannot find your address, you can:
Use a nearby address if it is listed.
Find your location using the coverage map.
Mobile operators in the UK
Mobile Network Operators
(MNO's)
Mobile Network Operators own and operate the mobile network infrastructure that provides mobile phone coverage and data services.
The four Mobile Network Operators in the UK are:
EE
O2
Three
Vodafone
Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs)
Mobile Virtual Network Operators use the networks owned by the four main operators to provide mobile services under their own brand names.
Although MVNOs use the same underlying networks, the services they offer may differ. Coverage, data speeds, roaming options and other features can vary between providers.

About Streetwave
Streetwave specialises in measuring real-world mobile network coverage and performance
The data shown in this checker reflects outdoor coverage only. Indoor coverage may vary depending on the building, surrounding environment and the device being used.
Whilst every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the information presented, Staffordshire County Council and Streetwave cannot guarantee that the data is fully accurate, complete or up to date. Any decisions made using this information are the responsibility of the user.
Report Mobile Connectivity Issues
If you are experiencing problems with your mobile phone signal, you can report them using the ‘Report a Signal Problem’ button on the coverage checker. Your feedback will help Staffordshire Council identify areas where residents are experiencing connectivity issues and share this information with relevant industry bodies and mobile network stakeholders.
Please note that Staffordshire Council cannot directly fix mobile connectivity problems. However, your reports will help the council build a clearer picture of local connectivity issues and highlight areas where improvements may be needed.
Why does my street show "No data"?
There are several reasons why a street may not display data:
The survey vehicle may not have travelled down that road.
Access restrictions may have prevented data collection.
The survey equipment may not have been operating at the time.
Insufficient measurements may have been collected.
A lack of data does not necessarily mean there is no mobile coverage in that location.
You can check nearby streets that do show data. This can help give you an idea of the mobile coverage in your area.
Why does my experience differ from the map?
Mobile coverage can vary significantly depending on:
The device you use
Whether you are indoors or outdoors
Building materials
Trees, hills and other obstacles
Weather conditions
Network congestion
The checker provides a real-world measurement of mobile network performance at the time the survey was conducted. Network performance can change over time as infrastructure is constructed, removed or upgraded.
Is the data still accurate today?
The data remains useful for identifying general coverage patterns and areas where connectivity may be weaker.
However, mobile networks are continually changing as operators upgrade and expand their networks. Coverage may therefore be different from that shown on the map.
Why do some roads have better coverage than nearby streets?
Mobile coverage can change over short distances due to local factors such as terrain, buildings, trees and the location of nearby mobile masts.
It is common for neighbouring streets to experience different levels of mobile service.
Can I use this information when choosing a mobile provider?
Yes. The checker can help you compare how different networks performed in your area at the time of the survey.
You may also wish to consider information from network providers, recommendations from neighbours and your own experience before choosing a provider.
Does the data include indoor coverage?
No. The data was collected outdoors from equipment mounted in moving vehicles and should be considered an indication of outdoor coverage only.
Can the Council fix mobile coverage problems identified by the checker?
No, because the Council does not operate mobile networks.
The checker is intended to provide helpful information about local mobile signal and operator performance, so residents can make more informed choices and raise any service-specific issues directly with their mobile network provider.
Will the data be updated?
The Council will consider opportunities to refresh the data in the future to reflect changes in mobile network coverage and performance.
